Peter Boyce presents an informative review of recent lighting research and technology advances with regard to the effects of lighting on people's lives. Although the writing is best suited for the lighting designer, anyone with a basic understanding of physics and lighting science fundamentals who wants to learn more about the relationship between light, design and human performance will benefit from this reading.Keep in mind that the foundation to effective lighting design is the understanding that 1) all such designs are systems; and 2) the focus of these systems is performance, mostly human. That is, light, regardless of the venue, affects safety, visual capabilities, physical and mental productivity, and comfort.
