PLENTY OF WORK FOR VERSATILE NEW TUG IN KEY WEST

The 82-foot tug Janet Catherine was built and delivered in 2004 with the anticipation of mostly doing ship-assist work for the U.S. Navy in Key West. Lately, however, owner Glenn Germaine, president of Seaward Services Inc., reports that his new tug has been doing as much commercial work as Navy work. Because of dredging and construction projects in and around the naval facilities at Key West, he said, arrivals of naval vessels have been fewer than anticipated. To keep busy, the 3,000-hp tug has been towing barges, helping with local salvage projects and docking tankers and other ships, while fulfilling Navy assignments as they come along.
