Matson cargo ship sustains hull fracture, leaks fuel in Oakland

The 713-foot container/roll-on/ roll-off ship (con-ro) Matsonia leaked an unknown amount of fuel from a hull fracture below the waterline at the Port of Oakland (Calif.). Crew aboard the U.S.-flagged ship, built to a similar design as El Faro, noticed sheening around the vessel at about 0800 on Feb. 21, not long after docking at the company's terminal.
