Preliminary Inspection of Traffic Bridges with Short Span in Bangkok Metropolitan Area

The preliminary inspection of more than 70 bridges in Bangkok Metropolitan Area has been performed. All of the bridges have comparatively short span and are located on the west side of Chao Phraya River. Deterioration to some extent could be observed in some bridges. One of the major causes of deterioration is carbonation which has been accelerated by insufficient thickness of concrete cover. Bad quality of construction work, which also seriously downgraded the performance of some structures, can be extensively observed in this inspection. It is noteworthy that no damages from loading could be observed in this inspection program.
