摘要

The body's immune defenses are a formidable weapon against cancer, and therefore therapies manipulating natural immune responses have been developed. However, tumors have evolved mechanisms to evade the body's defenses, compromising the efficacy of current interventions. Our study aimed to engineer stem cells genetically and, using a humanized mouse model, to create an immune system with potent and lasting antitumor properties. This approach led to the development of mature and effective antimelanoma (anti-skin cancer) T cells (white blood cells important to immune responses) that were able to target and eliminate tumors effectively. Although this study focused on a single human cancer, the scientific yield from these proposed studies could have a significant public health impact for other forms of cancer, infectious diseases, and even autoimmune disorders, including multiple sclerosis'and rheumatoid arthritis.
