Biomarkers to predict breast cancer recurrence

Molecular profiling of breast cancer patients can potentially help physicians tailor treatments to individuals, given that patients in the same stage of the disease might respond differently to the same treatment. But to predict the likelihood of recurrence of breast cancer, physicians must periodically monitor patients' tumor-related biomarkers-a technical challenge compounded by a lack of tumor tissue in patients after the surgical removal of tumors.
