Synthesis and characterisation of cyclopalladated complexes of alpha-tetraloneketimine

The reactions of various alpha-tetrakmeketimines(L) with palladium acetate in CHC1_3 have been studied. In all cases acetato-bridged dimeric compound [Pd_2L_2(OAc)_2] were obtained in which metallation had occurred at the peri position of the a-tetralone nucleus, The analogous chloro-bridged compounds [Pd_2L_2Cl_2] were prepared from acetato-bridged dimer by metathesis reaction using Lid. The bridge-splitting reaction of [Pd_2L_2Cl_2] with triphenylphosphine, acetylacetone, methylacetoacetate, diethyldithiocarbamate, 2,2'-bipyridine, 1,10-phenanthroline, 4,4'-bipyridine and 2,2'-penta and hexamethylenebipyridinehave been studied. The reactivity of 4,4'-bipyridine and 2,2'-penta and hexamethylene-bipyridines have also been studied with di-mu-chloro bis[N,N-dimethylbenzylamine C~2,N]dipalladium(II) and di-mu-chloro bis[N-benzylidenemethylamine C~2,N] dipalladium(H). All the complexes obtained were characterised by elemental analysis, IR, ~1HNMR and ~(13)CNMR spectroscopy.
