Graduating from the Sandbox - a look at the first four exit reports

Although her fines might grab headlines,the Information Commissionerhas for some time now been at painsto emphasise that she does not justwield a big stick - she is also thereconstructively to engage with businessesand to advise and supportthem in their compliance efforts. TheSandbox is one of a number of initiativesaiming to provide more certaintyand help operationalise the GDPR forday-to-day business. In recentmonths these have included thelaunch of the Accountability Framework(in beta) as well as a data sharinginformation hub to support thenew Data Sharing Code of Practicewhich was submitted to the Secretaryof State on 17th December 2020. Nosurprise then that data sharing is alsoan area where the ICO is currentlyaccepting expressions of interest forthe next phase of the Sandbox.
