Choosing the Right Connector

They are among the most widely used and abused components. Yet until recently, little care has been taken in the design and implementation of connector-based systems. For years, connector selection was one of those uninteresting details which had to be done. All that mattered were the number of pins, the density of pins per inch and the reliability of the mated contact surfaces. System architects were often primarily concerned with the form, fit, function and cost. Cost was (and is) a major consideration.
