It was a terrible mistake. I hate mistakes, particularly mine. Here's what happened. Last month's column was on embedded passive costs. It included, among other things, a cost example. I wanted this example to be as factual as possible, of course, considering it was based on a hypothetical case. I did pretty well. My math was correct. It all seemed logical. Unfortunately, one part was downright wrong. I discovered my goof on Nov. 11, as I was readying to give a talk on a related topic. It was too late: the December issue was off the press and on its way to you. One of mankind's greatest teachers said, "The truth will set you free."
