Whether to jump on the bandwagon or just let it go?

The quality produced by colour printers for office applications appears to a layman to be as good as that of offset printing. This feature offers users an opportunity to enter the colour digital printing business with a small investment. The colour digital printing based on electrophotography was demonstrated for the first time to the graphic arts industry at the Ipex 1993 in Birmingham and most of the printers evidenced it for the first time at the drupa 1995. Indigo had displayed a B3 printer and Xeikon, a web printing machine with a 32 cm print-width. Both these machines were designed for producing high speed and quality colour prints. Their prices too were high. But the manufacturers felt that the prices were apt, because offset prints could be thought of only for high volume print runs due to their then high prepress stage costs.
