摘要

On Tuesday, August 15, 2006, the NS (Nuclear Ship) Savannah was removed from the James River Reserve Fleet and towed to Colonna's Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia. In the reserve fleet since 1994, the historic vessel entered the shipyard to begin maintenance work that will lead to her complete nuclear decommissioning and eventual use as a museum. Fellow SSHSA member Mark Nemergut and I watched her removal from the fleet, then were invited to board her at Colonna's later that week. This report will provide a brief historical background for the Savannah, describe her recent move and our visit aboard, and detail the current and future work that will lead to her historic preservation.
