Upgrade units for conventional dredge pumps Possibility of upgrade

Several contractors have asked for the possibility of improving the output of existing dredgers by applying the latest technology in dredge pump design. IHC has two basic series of dredge pumps: the conventional type and the more recently developed high efficiency (HR) dredge pumps. IHC has researched the possibilities and advantages of refurbishing conventional dredge pumps with high efficiency parts. This conversion is without changes to the pump drive and aims to refit only a minimum of non wearing parts. The goal of the research project was to replace the impeller only, with as few adjustments to casing, suction mouth wearing bush or wearing plates as possible. This article describes the how and why of new possibilities to incorporate, on a budget, HR-technology in conventional pumps.
