Integrated partnership: The Dutch shipbuilding industry working together

Integrated Partnership ('Integraal Samenwerken') is a cluster project for pooling the resources of the Dutch shipbuilding community. The aim is to integrate shipbuilding processes more seamlessly while maintaining a competitive climate (figure 1). The project is the largest of its kind in the Netherlands, and it brings together leading shipbuilding groups, a blasting and painting company, electric, hydraulic, pneumatic and HVAC system integrators, and IHC Merwede. The participants represent about 6000 employees so far and the project is open to all parties actively involved in the Dutch shipbuilding value chain. The programme was defined jointly by the sector and the companies work together with researchers from the Delft University of Technology. Every partner endorses the objectives, contributes to its realisation and reaps the benefits in its own processes.
