Barkmeijer delivers the Charlock

During March this year, Holland's Van den Herik Sliedrecht took delivery of its new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Charlock from Dutch shipbuilder Barkmeijer Shipyards (Stroobos). The dredger was launched on 6 February and will begin her first assignment in March this year (2016) - coastal replenishment operations on the Dutch coast near Bloemendaal Zandvoort. Beginning in 2007, Van den Herik set about translating its list of requirements into a detailed design for a TSHD, and then, with the technical general arrangement and a detailed specification established, the owner approached several shipyards, both in the Netherlands and overseas, for quotations.
