The global iron ore industry is emerging with renewed optimism after the malaise of 1999, marked by price cuts and reduced sales volumes. Global economic recovery has now reversed the downward trend in world steel demand that began in 1998, sparked by the Asian financial crisis, and continues upwards in 2001.
