It is a little known fact that manganese is among the top give most mined metals in the world. The uses-are diverse. MOIL is the frontrunner in the Indian manganese sector. Manganese Ore mining activities in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh were started by the British Company, Central Provinces Prospecting Syndicate at the beginning of the 20~(th) century. The Central Provinces Prospecting Syndicate was renamed as the Central Provinces Manganese Ore Company Limited (CPMO) in 1935. Manganese Ore (India) Limited (MOIL) was formed in 1962 with 17 percent of the shares of the Company held by the Government of India; 17 percent by the State Governments of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and the balance 49 percent by CPMO. In October 1977, the remaining shares held by CPMO were also acquired by the Central Government.
