Marseilles on the move

On 12 April the Marseilles Port Authority's (PMA) commissioners approved the Fos-2XL container terminal project. "Since then we have been discussing it with government and expect a decision from them shortly permitting us to announce a public tender to find a group which will operate 2XL," says PMA director general Eric Brassart. "We should go out to tender by September," he adds. The tender will aim to attract groups rather than a single entitv manager, Brassart says and he hopes that by the end of the year, they will have two or three bids from line and railway operator groupings to evaluate with a view to making a final selection by mid 2002. On this basis, 2XL will become operational by the end of 2004.
