Germany already boasts Europe's second largest container port, Hamburg, while fellow German port Bremerhaven is also seeing tremendous growth. Both these ports have major expansion programmes underway to cater for the growth anticipated in the coming years. However, for some time, Germany has been giving consideration to developing a new deepwater container terminal, with Cuxhaven or Whilhelmshaven being the potential locations.
