There are a few ways to do it. HDTV manufacturers adjust settings to look good in harsh electronics-store lighting, which usually means the picture will be too bright for your home. Fortunately, by buying the TV, you already have the most basic improvement: built-in presets like Movie, Theater, Pro, Night and Warm, which are superior to the out-of-the-box settings. If you own an LCD TV, try settings like Backlight, Eco Bright or Power Saver for richer-looking blacks (as well as to save energy). You may find initially that the picture is not as bright, but you'll get used to it quickly, and it will cut down on eye fatigue.
