摘要

In the present global scenario, fossil fuels are exhausting in fast manner and hence we are in need of research for alternate fuels where a huge demand of fuel in transport sector. The main objective of this research work is to analyse and compare the performance and emission characteristics of rapeseed and pongamia biofuel in diesel engine. The main problem occurs in biodiesel is its higher viscosity than the regular diesel. Experimental results revealed that the biofuel and bio lubricant based on rapeseed oil exhibited better performance with significant reduction in particulate, CO and NO_x emissions under similar operating conditions and in terms of wear rate. Also it was found that, all performance characteristics like BSFC, BTE, ME and BP were better for rapeseed blends. It was observed that biodiesel will replace diesel as a source of fuel in near future and thus plant of biofuel in long run may have a positive impact on engine life.
