The Trump Administration's Indo-Pacific Strategy: A Difficult Beginning

The Trump administration has introduced a new strategy for the Indo-Pacihc. Above all, this strategy aims to curb Chinese expansion, by developing a partnership with India and co-operation in South-East Asia. But this stance reinforces a zero-sum game which encourages Washington's partners to be cautious. The United States' ability to provide an alternative to Beijing has been eroded and countries in this region are seeking to assert their strategic autonomy.
