Mr Stewart Dickson MLA and member of the Justice Committee, recently hosted Chief Inspector Graham Dodds, Constable Valerie Robinson and members of Amber TSG at a reception at Stormont. This was to recognise the bravery and dedication shown by these officers during the serious rioting in Carrickfergus on 5th December 2012. During this disorder, 22 TSG officers faced a crowd of 1600, many of whom were active rioters. This crowd had forced local police out of the town, set fire to the Alliance Party office and trapped a family of 3 above the office. Despite being vastly outnumbered, and under intense missile attack, the TSG forced the rioters away from the office and evacuated the family. They then saved the commercial heart of Carrickfergus despite fierce violence from the crowd who resisted the efforts of the TSG in removing them from the commercial area.
