A SHORT HISTORY OF THE SPECIAL CONSTABULARY LONG SERVICE MEDAL IN NORTHERN IRELAND

A Royal Warrant was issued on 30 August, 1919 instituting the award of the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal. Qualification for this medal was nine years unpaid service in the Special Constabulary (war service counting treble). From its formation, members of the USC were not eligible to receive this medal. The riband is 3.5 centimetres (13/8 inches) wide with three equal stripes - white, red and white. Each of the white stripes is bisected by a stripe of black.
