Flying podiatry: Working in remote South Australia

I left the grey skies of Newcastle airport where it was -13 degrees, and arrived into Port Augusta, a blistering 49 degrees. Now my commute to work is three minutes, and the sun shines for 360 days a year. Day length varies because of the variety of work locations. The challenges at work now are different. Although we only have a small population of 25,000 people, with a case load of 3,000 patients, the area the department covers is huge and covers the far north region of South Australia. Thankfully we fly to the nine other townships we serve in our region. We work alongside the Royal Flying Doctors Service. Allied health has a scheduled flight and designated plane that ensures we access the various towns at least once a month.
