Professional indemnity now a condition of registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

On thursday 17 july 2014 the government introduced legislation that requires all HCPC registrants, apart from social workers in England, to have appropriate professional indemnity arrangements in place as a condition of their registration with the HCPC. This will not affect the vast majority of registrants as they will already be indemnified either through their employer, a professional body, directly with an insurer or a combination of these. It is however important that each registrant has the appropriate level of cover for their practice.
