Additional Rolls-Royce SMR funding expected soon

A consortium led by Rolls-Royce that is developing a small modular reactor design in the UK expects to announce additional private sector funding for the project of around GBP85 million ($115.2 million) very soon, a spokesman for the consortium said Nov. 9. The UK government's Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said in a statement Nov. 8 it had provided GBP210 million in grant funding to the Rolls-led consortium which is to deploy a demonstration SMR in the UK by the early 2030s. That funding follows GBP18 million awarded to the Rolls SMR consortium in November 2019.
