Rolls-Royce expects to use CFD, strike price to fund UK SMR construction

A consortium led by Rolls-Royce expects to fund construction of a series of small modular reactors in the UK by using a contract for difference and strike price funding model, a consortium official said in an interview Nov. 24. The consortium is looking to construct an SMR with a capacity of 470 MW, with the first unit potentially located on the site of the former Magnox power station at Trawsfynydd in north Wales. The proposed Rolls Royce design is a three-loop pressurized water reactor.
