Swiss government imposes large increase in disposal and decommissioning charges

The Federal Council, the Swiss Cabinet, has nearly doubled the amountthat operators of Switzerland’s five nuclear power stations have to payeach year into the Decommissioning and Disposal Funds, the Swissgovernment said November 6.The decision, made in the third revision of the Decommissioningand Disposal Fund Ordinance, known as the SEFV, was announced bythe Swiss Federal Office of Energy, or SFOE, which said the annualcontributions to separate decommissioning and disposal funds will risefrom the current level of around CHF 96 million ($105.9 million) to anestimated CHF 183.7 million.
