US operator uranium purchases, inventories drop in 2018, says EIA

Uranium purchases by US utilities dropped in 2018 and inventories alsodeclined, the US Energy Information Administration said in a reportreleased May 30.The uranium marketing report is prepared annually by EIA based ona survey of market participants.Owners and operators of US power reactors bought 40.3 million lbof U3O8 equivalent, or U3O8e, in 2018, EIA said. That was 6% less thanoperator purchases in 2017, which totaled 43 million lb U3O8e.The amount of uranium acquired by operators was the lowest sinceat least 1995, and is down 30% since the recent peak of 57.5 million lbU3O8e in 2012, EIA data showed.
