Spot prices of ferroalloys imported into Japan nfrom China sustained positive momentum ahead nof Lunar New Year holidays. Steel production is ngradually stepping up in China, and due to the npositive price outlook, sellers are focusing on nbusiness after the holiday, Japanese sources nadded. Spot silicomanganese prices rose to n$1,580-1,600/mt CIF Japan this week, from n$1,530-1,580/mt the previous week. Metal nproduction in southern China was affected by ncold weather, sources said. In contrast, Indian-norigin silicomanganese prices were quoted at naround $1,400/mt CIF Japan, unchanged from nlast week, said one trader. Spot ferrosilicon nprices were maintained at $1,550-1,570/mt CIF nJapan, but one trade source noted that some nproducers raised offers by $20/mt, attributing nthe rise to increased orders from the local steel nmills in China.
