China’s Chongqing Nanchuan Xianfeng Alumina,na subsidiary of Chongqing Bosai Mining, hasnreduced its alumina production by about 30%nthis month on the back of continued bauxitensupply issues, a source from the 750,000 mtyear refiner said Tuesday. “We just cut back lastnweek as we’ve still not seen any bauxite shipmentsnfrom Indonesia, and we need to conservenour current reserves until we find new supplynsources,” he said. “How long we will cut backnor whether we will cut further will depend on ifnwe can resolve the bauxite supply issues,” henadded. Reports in late June said Indonesia hadnawarded mineral export permits to 13 companies, nbut the Chinese refiner said it had yet tonsee any bauxite shipments delivered to date.nThe company imports about 95% of its bauxitensupply from Indonesia, with the remaining 5%nsourced from the domestic market. The sourcenestimated that the company should have enoughnreserves to last for the next three to fournmonths’ operations. In 2012, the refiner nownexpects to produce about 500,000-600,000 mtnof alumina, down from an earlier targeted outputnof 650,000-700,000 mt. “We will at leastnproduce enough for use in our own aluminiumnsmelter,” the source said. The refiner’s aluminanoutput is mainly used to feed its 200,000 mtyear Aba Aluminium smelter in Sichuan province
