World refined Pb surplus 41,000 mt: ILZSG

The world market for refined lead metal nwas in surplus by 41,000 mt in the first nnine months of this year, while reported stock levels rose by 45,000 mt over the nperiod, according to preliminary figures nreleased Wednesday by the International nLead & Zinc Study Group. The refined nlead surplus in January-September 2009 nwas 70,000 mt, according to ILZSG nfigures. A rise in world refined lead nmetal production of 4.4% year-on-year nto 6.715 million mt was mainly a conse-nquence of increases in China, Canada, nGermany, Japan, Mexico and Poland, the nILZSG said. Growth in Chinese apparent ndemand of 4% together with increases nin, Europe (7%), India (12%), Japan n(20%), the Republic of Korea (10.9%) nand Thailand (23.3%) were the main fac-ntors behind an overall increase in global nrefined lead metal demand of 4.9% to n6.674 million mt, it added. Global lead nmine output rose 8.1% to 2.993 million nmt, principally as a result of higher out-nput in China and Mexico that more than nbalanced reductions in Ireland, Peru and nthe US, the ILZSG added.
