Stakeholders request deeper customer impact analysis as NYISO considers carbon pricing

New York’s power grid operator is considering the potential impacts that pricing carbon emissions could have on various aspects of its markets, while stakeholders are seeking more information about how the initiative might impact ratepayers. The New York Independent System Operator has been working on developing a system to price carbon into its wholesale power markets since 2017 and while a carbon charge would mostly impact the energy market, the grid operator summarized the potential effects on other NYISO processes and markets in a presentation given at an Integrating Public Policy Task Force meeting Monday.
