China’s nuclear capacity hits 35.8 GW, aim is 58 GW by 2020

China's gross nuclear generation in 2017 was 247.5 billion KWh, 17% higher than its 2016 output of 210.5 billion KWh, the China Nuclear Energy Association said in a statement January 30. As of the end of 2017, China had 37 nuclear units in operation, with a total capacity of 35,807 MW, up from 33,632 MW in 2016, CNEA said. Nuclear energy accounts for 3.94% of the country's total electricity generation, up from 3.56% a year prior, the association said. Two units, Yangjiang-4 in coastal Guangdong province and Fuqing-4 in eastern China’s Fujian province, began commercial operation last year. Yangjiang-4 began commercial operation March 15 and Fuqing-4 did so September 17.
