LevelTen Energy’s online market for renewable energy power purchase agreements launched Tuesday seeks to tap into corporate demand for clean energy by making it easier and cheaper for buyers and sellers to close deals. “When we looked at the market for power purchase agreements, we saw the corporates as promising power buyers,” but they were often challenged by issues of scale and long sales cycles for single PPAs, Bryce Smith, founder and CEO of LevelTen, said in a phone call. Corporate buyers were putting a lot of eggs in one basket buying a single PPA, “so we sought to make that PPA transaction more transparent and safer,” Bryce said. “For smaller players it would be easier to buy a mutual fund of PPAs,” he added.
