Avista aims for 80% renewables in Washington in 2022, 100% by 2030

Avista Utilities Inc. plans to cover 80% of its retail electric sales inWashington with renewable energy or other non-carbon-emittingresources in 2022 and 100% in 2030, the Spokane, Wash.-basedoperating arm of Avista Corp. said Oct. 1 in a clean energy plan filedwith state regulators.The targets are aimed at complying with Washington's CleanEnergy Transformation Act of 2019, or CETA, which required electricsupplies to be greenhouse gas-neutral by 2030. Under the carbonneutralityrequirement, utilities can source up to 20% of their retailpower supplies from carbon-emitting resources. They must offsetthose emissions with the purchase of renewable energy certificates,which represent the clean energy attributes of renewable energy butnot the electricity itself.
