FERC's Glick outlines vision for new federalstate transmission task force

A new federal-state task force focused on speeding the build-out of the US electric transmission system will ideally produce proposals that can be included in a final transmission planning rule expected by late next year, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Richard Glick said July 21. FERC announced the task force in June as part of a broader rulemaking effort (RM21-17) to revamp its transmission planning, cost allocation, and generator interconnection policies as the nation continues to shift to renewable energy resources sited in remote areas. At the same time, FERC issued a policy statement encouraging states to work around Order 1000, a decade-old transmission planning rule that has so far failed to produce grid build-out at the pace and scale needed to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
