US utilities are pushing investments in charging as EV sales climb

With electric vehicle sales in the US on the rise the past two years,utilities have been encouraged to invest more in transportationelectrification and specifically in more EV charging stations.Forty utilities across the country have now won approval fromregulators in 20 states to invest $1.08 billion over the next several yearsto bring online both DC fast charging and Level 2 charging stations,while investments of an additional $1.5 billion are currently underconsideration, according to Washington DC-based Atlas Public Policy.“While there was some early skepticism at public servicecommissions about putting EV charging into rate base, now there is alot of support for utility engagement in the EV charging business,” saidNick Nigro, the founder of Atlas Public Policy, which aggregates datamined from IOU public filings.
