Carbon price seen as key policy approach for meeting net-zero emissions goal by 2050

Despite pushback from GOP lawmakers against federal mandates andtop-down approaches to decarbonization, power industry and thinktankofficials insisted that a national price on carbon was crucial toachieving a clean economy with a diverse, reliable and affordablesupply of energy.The Democratic-led House Energy and Commerce Committeeadopted a bold target earlier in the year to achieve a 100% cleaneconomy by 2050. The goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by2050 is in line with the global scientific community’s recommendationsfor staving off the most catastrophic effects of climate change.
