NIPSCO RFPs aim at replacing coal with ‘least-cost’ solar, wind

The power market in northern Indiana is facing a significanttransformation as NiSource’s Northern Indiana Public Service Co.(NIPSCO), through requests for proposals, expects to be able to replace2,094 MW of retiring coal-fired capacity with about 2,300 MW of windand solar generation. Some of the renewable power will be paired withbattery storage.NIPSCO has said the objective of its plan is to ensure it cantransition to the “least-cost, cleanest portfolio available.”
