FERC raises threshold for reviewing utility mergers, consolidations

Federal regulators on February 21 issued a final rule that effectivelylimits which transactions involving US power assets are subject totheir approval.In raising the threshold for its review of utility mergers andconsolidations to those involving assets valued at more than $10million, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission helped to reconcilean inconsistency that was established when the US Congressamended the Federal Power Act through the Energy Policy Act of 2005,or EPAct 2005.
