Legislation will revise NRC fee structure, advanced reactor licensing

Legislation passed by Congress in Decemberand signed by President Donald TrumpJanuary 14 will revise NRC’s process forsetting licensee fees and require furtherpreparation by the agency for the licensing ofnon-light water advanced reactors.S. 512, the Nuclear Energy Innovation andModernization Act, was introduced in March2017. It passed Congress by voice votes in theUS Senate December 20 and in the US Houseof Representatives the next day.
