Grid operators present discretion, flexibility as key to mitigating credit risk in power markets

Grid operators generally agreed Feb. 25 that they had the discretion necessary to mitigate credit risk during abnormal, black-swan events, but urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, as it looks into credit and risk-management practices in the organized power markets, to refrain from stripping away any of that flexibility and to be open to requests seeking waivers of tariff requirements.
