US May crude output falls record 2 million b/d: EIA

US May crude production plunged nearly 2 million b/d from April to 10 million b/d, latest US Energy Information Administration monthly data showed July 31. The May output figure, released in the EIA's Petroleum Supply Monthly report, is a sharp downward revision of weekly EIA estimates, which showed output at around 11.5 million b/d that month. The decline marks a nearly 17% fall from April output of 11.99 million b/d and puts output nearly 18% under year-ago levels. Crude oil futures climbed in a late-session rally following the report. NYMEX September WTI settled up 35 cents at $40.27/b and ICE September Brent finished the day 36 cents higher at $43.30/b.
