AESO has 322.7 MW of generation nearing in-service status for this summer

The Alberta Electric System Operator has 322.7 MW of generation inthe final stages of construction with planned in-service dates thissummer, the AESO’s latest generation interconnection status reportshows, and another 1.5 GW is scheduled for completion before 2021.Such developments are necessary, inasmuch as AESO’s Long-TermForecast, released in October, indicates that almost 27% of AESO’s5,723-MW coal fleet is expected to retire or convert to natural gas by2024. In 2019, AESO had 16,106 MW of generation with an internalpeakload of 11,471 MW, and AESO expects to have 17,987 MW in 2024 tomeet an anticipated internal peakload of 12,703 MW.
