Industry observers differ over market impacts of converting PG&E to co-op

The mayor of San Jose, California, has proposed to join with other area cities in acquiring Pacific Gas & Electric and converting it to an electric and gas cooperative, an idea which PG&E has rejected, and industry observers differed Tuesday over the market prospects of such a proposal. Meanwhile, PG&E issued a 48-hour warning Monday that it may proactively shut off power for safety late Wednesday evening, because of concerns about a dry offshore wind event. The blackout "is expected to affect approximately 209,000 customers and may impact portions of 15 counties in the Sierra Foothills and the North Bay."
