China, India sign LNG supply deals

Two LNG suppliers on opposite sides of Australia have clinched 20-year supply agreements with relatively new entrants to the LNG market. India's Petronet, the country's largest LNG importer, had sought ExxonMobil's entire equity share of planned production from the Gorgon LNG project in Western Australia before settling for a long-awaited preliminary agreement to receive 1.5 million tons per annum, a senior Petronet official said. rnIn addition, the China National Offshore Oil Company announced that it has agreed to buy 3.6 mtpa of LNG from BG Group's proposed 7.4 mtpa coal seam methane-based project at Gladstone in the eastern state of Queensland for a period of 20 years. CNOOC has also agreed to take a 10% equity stake in one of the two trains to be built by BG at the $6 billion project.
