Australia's Beach Energy has announced plans to accelerate its shale gas exploration drilling program in the Cooper Basin in South Australia by adding a second well. The Holdfast-1 well, which is expected to spud in July in the PEL 218 tenement, will now be immediately followed by a second well about 20 kilometers to the southeast, the company said. The wells will be the first to be drilled in eastern Australia for shale gas.rn"We are moving forward rapidly to develop a shale gas project in the Cooper Basin," CEO Hector Gordon said. "The addition of a second well to our first drilling program is designed to accelerate the timetable for booking our first shale gas resources and first gas production. "Subject to the results of the first two Holdfast wells, we aim to be producing gas from our first pilot project in 2011."
