Smoke, mirrors and silver bullets

CO2 could be sequestered in solid state form and used for construction materials. That is the radical idea being put forward by a number of US and Australian companies. Others suggest CO2 could be used to make liquid fuels. If either can be achieved, it could fundamentally change the economics of carbon abatement and avoid the pitfalls of geologic sequestration, but it all depends on the energy balance.
